Camping doesn’t mean you have to eat poorly or sacrifice exercise. Many enjoy camping while cooking some delicious, healthy meals and staying active. It’s easy to do with a little preparation and planning.
The internet is full of ideas for healthy camping recipes for each meal and snacks that are easy and tasty. Plan and prepare snacks that include fruits and vegetables, or trail mix with dried fruit, whole grain cereal, nuts and dark chocolate. Try out individual, grilled pizza and get everyone involved. Kids will love choosing healthy toppings for their pizza and even picky eaters will love it. Dessert can even be healthy with banana boats – bananas, peanut butter and dark chocolate – or banana chocolate chip bread, prepared ahead of time.
When it comes to staying active while camping, there are tons of possibilities. It may mean having to switch up a normal exercise routine, but there are plenty of ways to be active while away from home. Some campgrounds even have gyms, providing machines and weights for guests to enjoy. If your campground does not have a gym, then take the opportunity to get outside and enjoy a run, hike or swim, depending on the area. Try out some pushups, sit-ups or other exercises that you can do by your RV, tent or inside your cabin. If you are staying in a hilly area, then try going on a morning walk or run on some hills and you’ll definitely get your heart going. Get family and friends involved with a hike or walk around the grounds.
Going camping is about getting away from it all and relaxing. It’s definitely possible to enjoy camping and maintain healthy eating habits and exercise, but it is vacation, so make sure to enjoy being outside with friends and family!
